    Ed Englerth is a Hastings, Michigan singer, guitarist, and songwriter whose work grew out of the Christian rock scene of the early 1970s. He played in Earthen Vessel and later worked through harder rock projects including Linear Action Band, while his own recordings moved toward acoustic folk before opening into a more elastic mixture of blues-based Americana with jazz elements. The 1990 cassette Rational? was largely solo acoustic music; by the 2002 debut Little Bit of Me Everywhere, references to Santana and Steely Dan appeared beside surf guitar and funk. Pingo kept the blues guitar but fit Englerth's plaintive voice more closely. The live Live at the State Grounds Coffee House shifted from blues-rooted songs into jazz-rock jams and saxophone-led pieces, with religious subjects still present.

    In 2005, Englerth issued D.I.A.L. Business and the Ed Englerth Jazz Quartet record, the latter presenting a smooth, live-feeling group built around his guitar with saxophone, bass, and drums. He remained a solo artist rather than ending the project, later releasing Restless Ghost in 2008 and Hope Dream Sigh in 2011 through Blue Side Down Studios. His later work continued under his own name, including Everyone Needs Healing in 2019 and Timed in 2021. The quartet name also remained in use for a later Bandcamp release, with Bob Hartig on saxophone, Randy Carlson on bass, and Glenn Miller on drums.
