    Fluffy was a Southern California Christian punk project formed in 1991 by Chris Colbert, who also played the buzzsaw guitar on the debut. The first record, Fluffy Luvs You, drew on old Los Angeles punk rather than hardcore, with short songs and a deliberately ragged attack. Go Fluffy Go pushed that approach toward louder post-punk and grunge: droning vocals rode over feedback while the drums kept a surf-derived pulse, and the band treated "Jessie's Girl" with comic irreverence. Its humor mattered as much as its noise. A song could move from a breakup over a television to "God's gonna getcha!" By Sugar Pistol, Fluffy had become a looser studio project, combining distorted psychedelia with spoken-word passages and guest vocals. It ends with "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" played on kazoo.

    After the 1992 follow-up, the members moved on to other projects, and Colbert relocated from Southern California to Nashville in 1995. Fluffy then became a split recording operation: the noisier songs were cut with the original group in Huntington Beach, while Nashville sessions brought in Steve Hindalong and later involved Jason Martin. The result was released by Flying Tart Records as Sugar Pistol, with Colbert the only performer heard throughout. In 1996, Fluffy vs. Phantasmic paired five older Fluffy tracks with five songs by Tess Wiley's Phantasmic and five credited to Xtra Fluffy, featuring Zachary Gresham on male vocals. Wiley later described the sessions with Colbert as improvised. Fluffy did not continue as a regular band after this period, although Colbert remains active in recording and production.
