The Seattle based trio Aveo has been playing music together since 2000, although before getting the record sent to me for review I had never heard of them. After a quick internet search I found out that their debut release Bridge to the Northern Lights came out in 2001 on Red Tide Records. They also seemed to be getting the most attention in their hometown (which helps explain the Seattle based label Barsuk picking them up) but appear to be on the right track in getting their music to other potential fans across the US through a number of upcoming tour dates this Spring.
Upon initial listen what stuck out to me the most on Battery was the vocals. Coming in somewhere between Morrissey and James the vocals have that air of familiarity that helps a new listener open up to the band a little more easily. Crafting an album of bittersweet indie rock tunes Aveo does a good job coming together as a band with a textured sound that perfectly complements a captivating vocal delivery.
