Though I had never listened to Brush Arbor, I enjoyed my first experience with them-their latest album, The Way The River Runs. They present a fresh and exciting blend of country-rock, bluegrass, and ballads. Jim Rice (lead vocals, backing vocals, banjo, acoustic guitar), Joe Rice (mandolin, backing vocals, acoustic guitar), Gordon Jenewein (backing vocals, keyboards), Kevin Watkins (backing vocals, drums), Steve Wilkinson (bass, backing vocals), and Brad Carr (backing vocals, guitars) comprise the band, with several studio musicians lending support to this recording.
The title track, written by Connie Harrington and Michael James, sets the stage for the project, pointing to the direction of the "river," which leads to Jesus Christ:
Just walk the way the river runs And you will find Him Look up and He'll be there Oh, no matter how far away you've gone You'll find your way back home Just walk the way the river runs
Most of the other songs are directly oriented toward Christ, such as "You Are My Only Need" which tells how He is our only need and hope in this life (including some words from the Twenty-Third Psalm) and "Worthy Is The Lamb" which focuses on "the Lamb of God who was slain for my soul."
This album encourages the listener to keep the faith and to look up to Christ. The mandolin, piano, and guitar work throughout the project help make it exciting to listen to.
