Change definitely falls into my "easy to understand" category. Their message flows clear and concisely through their lyrics. The accompanying sound will leave you relaxing to the diversity of their vocal talents. But, I would be remiss if I didn't add that after several listenings to this album I have labeled it as "a primer to reggae-the beat, the style, and the feeling." For me, this album is to reggae what the 50's were to rock and roll-the sound and feel of the music is all there, it's classic in its own right, and yet it is only the beginning of the evolution of the sound.
In their opening track, "We Have A Message," they are calling believers to be evangelists:
We have a message Fi spread a brawd Dis message is pure and true An' dis message is just for you... Tell it to the heathen That Jesus the Savior reigns Tell it to every nation and let them burst their chains
To open an album with such a powerful call for Christians is certainly bold. It also sets the standard for this entire project. I found each and every song on this album speaking to me on a personal level about my relationship with God and how I am answering His call in my life.
For those of you that might be a bit frightened of reggae let me put you at ease. Change is certainly not "hard-core" with their reggae sound like Christafari, nor are they worshipping a pagan god like reggae legend Bob Marley. This album can be enjoyed by a very diverse group of music lovers.
"Taste And See" is a song I think exemplifies the sound and spirit of what I feel will become a popular alternative to today's sound in contemporary Christian music. Just listen to the flow of the words:
Come on everybody Let's taste and see That the Lord is good Come on everybody Let's taste and see That the Lord is good Blessed is the man Who trusteth in the Lord Blessed is the man Who feeds upon His words... When you drink of Him You'll never thirst again And if you have doubts Come on and check Him out
The lyrics throughout the album are powerful and speak to us as a body of believers. Change may not offer your typical sound for praise and worship, but if you are looking for a fresh new sound in your personal worship time, then it may be a time for a Change.
