Austin, Texas' Dynamite Boy is back with a new self titled album that asks the question, "Where is everyone else going?" They're staying put. At least that's the way I took it when I heard this 12-song punk rock ditty. While so many bands evolve styles, either for better or worse, Dynamite Boy sticks to their guns. They have been around. They've played with just about any big punk band you can think of and they've toured for longer stretches than most bands do in their lifetime. They are a hard working band and this is a quality record.
This album has a lot of the stop & go. It has a lot of octave guitars, with a little more singing than previous releases. Production: outstanding. It is very guitar driven, which is my favorite kind of production. Lyrics: intelligent. It isn't 12 songs about girls (not that there's anything wrong with that)... the lyrics are based more on personal experiences and they're pretty clean for the most part.
The first 3 songs grab you with hooks left & right. Photograph (track 4) changes things up just a smidge, adding some piano and giving more meaning to the word "pop".
It's almost perfect.. but not quite. There are a few songs that I'd have to throw into the "filler" category. Midway through the disc you might find yourself skipping a track or two.. but stick around for the last few, especially Long Since Forgotten, with guest female vocals from the singer of Cruiserweight (another great Austin band).
These guys, of course, are on the road right now. They put on a mean show at Warped Tour, and soon after they are going out with the Queers. I'd strongly recommend checking out this album and finding them in your town...They're tough Texas dudes, but they write some catchy punk tunes.
