Dubbed as "A Modern Worship Recording," the latest from Everybody Duck follows the pattern of a lot of other Generation X inspired praise discs released in the last few years. Delirious, Matt Redman, and the Passion series immediately come to mind after a spin of this project. While seemingly jumping on the bandwagon of this trend in the Christian market, there is no doubting Everybody Duck's sincerity and genuine passion as they pour their hearts into both original material and a few timeless church classics. Although this group's mostly acoustic rock sound may not immediately appeal to the hard music fan, the disc's volume does turn up at certain points, and it serves as an awesome soundtrack for some down time with God. Take the anthemic "You've Got the Right Words," a seemingly gentle, guitar based ballad, that features powerful female background vocals and the comforting message of "I keep falling harder, falling down/ You keep reaching farther, reaching out." In addition, "Sustained" sets a contemplative tone, similar in style to the Jason Ingram Band or According to John. The track is uplifting and easy to memorize after only a few rotations. Actually, most songs on the disc are easy to pick up on after a few listens. Particularly catchy is the opening cut "Redeemed," which features a sharp drum pattern and building guitar riffs as each verse progresses. Another standout track is a plugged in, alternative version of the classic "Shout to the Lord" - similar in tone, but slightly faster than Skillet's rendition in the Ardent worship series. The project closes with the band unleashing a bit of rock fury on "Stand," in the vein of Polarboy or Send the Beggar. Ideally, this batch of songs makes for a perfect accompaniment for an edgy worship service, or to be duplicated by a church's praise band. Everybody Duck is known for playing between 250-300 concerts events each year, and this disc will make a smooth transition into a live setting.
