When looking for creative instrumental music performed by Christians, one need look no further than Denver's Fourth Estate. This trio combines years of experience and training in several different genres (classical, rock, jazz, flamenco guitar) to produce a solid sound with a great balance of melody and technical prowess. The band's version of "Ode To Joy", simply titled "Joy", starts the tape off with a clear sound that's immediately impressive. "Dance Of The Spider-Monkey" is especially noteworthy, as it shows off more of guitarist Dave Beegle's complex and fast riffs. This guy shreds the light fantastic! He doesn't overshadow his bandmates either! Bassist Fred Babich and drummer Jim Iltis are exceptionally tight and talented. They use the art of subtlety very well, only showing off their chops when it most helps the song. In other words, not every space in this music is filled with jamming. Sweet, melodic sounds are allowed to resonate and dwell in your brain a little bit sometimes before moving on. Even a rocker, like the cover of Jethro Tull's "Locomotive Breath" takes a simplistic approach to performing. "Reflections" is another highlight, an epic-length tune that covers a lot of ground.
