Geoff Moore and the Distance have been one of my favorite bands ever since I saw them live in the small chapel of a Bible camp in North Dakota. It was an incredible concert and many of the area's youth that attended made commitments to Christ during the altar call. But this is not a review of a concert that happened more than three years ago-it is an album review!
This two disc set is an extremely good representation of Geoff Moore and the Distance: past, present, and future...? It contains all the "good ones," and also includes, as a bonus, two new songs: "More Than Gold" and "Today." The first disc contains studio recordings of songs like "Life Together," "Evolution...Redefined," "Good To Be Alive," and "A Friend Like U." The second disc really kicks into gear with "The Live Set," including songs like "Evidence Of God," "Home Run," "When All Is Said And Done," and-of course-that classic Larry Norman tune, "Why Should The Devil Have All The Good Music?"
For those of you that have never heard any of Geoff Moore's music, you have been missing out on a real musical treat! It is bold, strong rock n roll! But, at times, it is also soft-spoken, calm, serene music that can sometimes bring the listener to tears (e.g. "If You Could See What I See"). If you are a fan, this project is a gem, because it contains most of the band's best songs. If you aren't a fan (yet), it gives you a good taste of what Geoff Moore is all about. You can't lose with this one.
