I Am a Conjuror is indie styling with a David Bowie sensibility. "Ride Away" and "Song for New Scotland," the most political track, have Isnor channeling the Thin White Duke himself. "If I Were" is more of a mix between Beck and Cracker.
"The Art of War" is the most fully fleshed out song on the album, and is definitely the most commercially accessible, if that can be said about an independent artist.
Isnor is equal parts Beck, David Bowie, Daniel Johnston, and Half Handed Cloud. Vocally, he occasionally lapses into the nasal, overwrought, Elvis Costello mode. His guitar work and synthesizer playing (especially on instrumentals "High-Five" and "Discof%^&" are better than average. I Am a Conjuror is original, to say the least, but it is not something that grabbed me and made me want to hear it again.
