The artwork of Burning Bridges is amazing. Made by Asterik Studios, this genius of design features a theme of fire, a beautiful woman with a halo over her head crying tears of blood, trying to keep enough composure to survive and perfectly embodies the packaging's content. Burning Bridges is about a heart breaking without Christ, falling down and staying up (in faith), throwing away one's sense of self for something empty, and showing a light at the end of the tunnel.
After a good chunk of time being independent, Haste the Day garnered a reputation for honest lyrics, a killer live show, and a very hard work ethic that got them fans and shows. Then along comes Barry Poynter (Zao, Living Sacrifice) to produce a new album entitled Burning Bridges, and soon after it is recorded, Haste the Day inked a deal with Solid State Records.
Burning Bridges is a solid Haste the Day release centered around metalcore that leans towards a strong hardcore feeling. Burning Bridges leaves it on the line and bodes quite well then throws in melody resulting in a balanced work that isn't repetitive. The production brings the potency, intensity, and passion front and center.
If the vocals sound like Zao-type vocals, it's because of the producer's previous experience with Zao, yet don't get caught in the "sounds like Zao, is Zao" trap, because to compare Zao to Haste the Day is unfair. In some ways they are similar, but not a whole lot past the vocals and the "heavy music ideals." Zao is more about the hxc music, HtD is more about faith, and hxc mixed with a melody that's crisp and steadily clean.
Expect to hear more from Haste the Day, see them out on tour (their live show is really good and packed with intensity and passion), and if a person likes hardcore or metalcore and is open minded, pick up this release.
