Out of Minnesota comes the four piece hardcore-punk rock band, Holding On. They play a fast and hard style of punk rock that keeps them from drifting into the metal sound and keeps them in the middle of old school punk rock and new school hardcore. Holding On's new release, "Question What You Live Four" (bridge nine), becomes their sixth release overall. I am relatively unfamiliar with the band because they are from the mid-west and have mostly toured the west coast.
The production on this album is average. At some points I found the songs and the recordings somewhat boring and repetitive. The lyrics are good punk rock lyrics that are personal and political and that challenge the scene and society. The only problem I had with the lyrics was that they were vulgar. It is not so much that they are vulgar but that the words seemed to lack meaning. It seemed like they were vulgar just for the sake of being vulgar. When it comes to swearing, if you are going to do it, don't do it so often that it loses all meaning or if you do swear constantly, make sure there is some sort of passion behind it all. With a band like Blood For Blood, I can tell the passion behind it all and I don't lose the meaning.
This album did have some bright spots and it does make for a good punk rock record but it just didn't do anything for me. I would advise you to take a listen to the free MP3's on http://www.bridge9.com before purchasing this album. It may be what you are looking for but for me it just wasn't.
