The Deanna Jones Orchestra have appeared at the weddings of Mike Douglas, Geraldo Rivera, and Donald Trump. Add to that Presidential Inaugurals and The Goodwill Games. You could say they were the darlings of the New York jet set. Enter God--all that changes! Thus begins Jacob's Journey. Founders Deanna (Jones) and Mark Falchook say that their first CD, A Feather in His Hand, is a celebration of life; an offering back to God in immense gratitude for every waking breathing moment."
That it is and that it does.
Featuring a breezy electric piano sound that touches on Chick Corea, Stevie Wonder, Margaret Becker, Out of the Grey, Avalon, and the early CCM band Seawind, Jacob's Journey features well constructed songs that are highlighted by Deanna's wonderfully expressive vocals. Always a definite plus, but one gets the feeling she is holding back at times.
Leaning toward the AC/CHR side on the music scale, the band slowly draws you into the world they are creating; expressing their hearts of gratitude to the Lord. Deanna says they hope that A Feather in His Hand encourages, inspires, uplifts and moves all of you who listen to it into a closer relationship with God.
Several songs stand out. "Angel On My Shoulder" deals with losing a loved one. "Empty Nest" tells the story of leaving home for the last time. "Let the Spirit Move You" features a great melody. Favorite is "Big Professor" -- mid tempo talk with God about the 'BIG' questions. "I'm no Albert Einstein, Aristotle or Socrates. I don't even know why there's an "i" before "e" in believe, ..but I know Who loves me."
Give this CD a chance. It'll put the brakes to the break-neck pace of our lives. First it will slow you down, then usher you into the Lord's presence. A good place to be.
