Sundown is a portrait of one day in a person's life, reduced to 35 minutes and eight instrumental selections, performed by Kevin Smith on his Martin D-1 acoustic guitar. It is a quiet, contemplative album, opening with "Sunday" and working its way to "Sundown". Smith is certainly talented enough on the guitar, but the album lags in spots.
Each song begins to sound the same after awhile, without much transition from one mood to another. At its high moments, Sundown recalls The Master Musician by John Michael Talbot. At worst, it is mood music for a quiet day, best suited for relaxing or reading.
