The first thing I thought when I put this CD in was this sounds a lot like something the Specials or the Toasters would put out. Then as I made my way through the CD I came to the conclusion that this bands music is even better than the music that the Specials and the Toasters have ever put out. Ska seems to be on its way out, yet King Apparatus brings a fresh feel to a sound that had seemed to saturate the indie music scene a few years back. This band uses no horns but instead relies heavily on the rhythm guitar, lead guitar and organ. The lead guitarist is really good too, throwing in many creative leads and solos throughout most of the songs. The melodies are on, the songs are catchy, and songwriting is done very well. The down side to this CD is that it kind of starts dragging at the end. I don't know if it's the similar sound throughout or if its just the fact that the songs aren't quite as good at the end. But overall I was impressed with this release. This is definitely something I could see myself putting in every now and then when I'm just looking to sit back and get down to some ska with a rocksteady beat.

These are the type of songs you snap your fingers to while trying not to give into the urge to start swing dancing or at least moving around a bit. The singing is not overly aggressive, giving the record a nice mellow yet upbeat feel. There is more of a retro rock than ska sound. It's a good listen. B
