When she gave me back the power to believe
I'm not sure if there's such a thing as a lyrical theme in King Crimson's music (recall the verses in the title track from their last studio album, The ConstruKction of Light). This refrain occurs several times throughout their new album, so if they have one, this is it. As always, it's not what the Crim says, but how they say it. In another track, Robert Fripp and friends opine:
You have to be happy with what you have to be happy with.
No band DEFINES progressive music more than King Crimson. These guys are the Miles Davis of rock. If you like constantly changing and interesting time signatures, this is a band to check out. The Power to Believe is more similar to ConstruKction than it is to their earlier, more popular efforts like Red and Discipline. Nevertheless, I prefer the intensity, tones, and production values of their more recent work.
"EleKtrik," the fourth track in The Power to Believe, has to be one of their best instrumentals ever. Like any good prog song, it comes in at more than seven minutes long. Seven minutes of unique scales and unique combinations of instrumentation, and getting heavier and heavier as it goes along. Give it a try.
