Take the sound of Margaret Becker's first two albums and the best of Hoi Polloi and you get a great idea of what King's Road can do. With the searing hot vocals of Eve Marie Selis and the driving heartland rock and roll energy of bandmates Marc Intravaia (guitar), John Khula (bass), Mike Peters (keys), and Bob Sale (drums), King's Road has one fine recipe for a smokin' hot debut album. Coming off clean and crisp, the band sounds like a seasoned, veteran outfit.

The band seems to feel very comfortable staking its claim in this heartland rock style, never straying too far from the strong keyboard laced acoustic strumming rhythms. While certainly not edgy, alternative or trendy (there's not a trace of flannel in the cover photo), the band must be applauded for doing what they do so well.

Lyrically, the material sounds honest and very uplifting ("Nothing Without You" and "Everything I Need"). The band does a good job of addressing a common temptation for single Christians -- "missionary dating" -- in "Unholy Union." The song's got a great hook too! The last two songs on the disc transition together nicely -- "Love Won't Win" travels from a melancholy music line (while talking about the pain of divorce), to a celebratory, upbeat anthem about healing in God ("Into The Sun").

King's Road is a trip worth taking. Now let's just keep Charlie Peacock away from Eve, for fear he'll turn her into a Motown clone!
