In this day and age, when Britney Spears, Kid Rock, Limp Bizkit, and their various copycats and hangers on dominate the radio dial, it is refreshing indeed to see a genuinely good band like Lifehouse getting some significant air time. The band's lead single, "Hanging By A Moment" deservedly climbed the charts, and their best song, "Sick Cycle Carousel" didn't do too badly either.
Lifehouse is somewhat hard to describe, especially for a modern rock band. Their sound is quite distinctive, and thus difficult to describe by means of comparison; the closest thing I can think of is a Creed/Third Day hybrid with bits of Jars of Clay and Switchfoot thrown in for good measure. An analytical description can come a bit closer, but is still hampered by the somewhat nebulous definition of the terms "modern rock." The word "fabulous" works, though. Be sure to check out the above mentioned "Sick Cycle Carousel", "Somebody Else's Song", and the awesome album closing ballad "Everything" to find Lifehouse's best work.
Qualitative description? This is easily the best debut album this reviewer has heard since Jars of Clay, maybe the best ever. If you have any taste at all for creative modern rock with solidly Christian oriented lyrics, I highly recommend No Name Face.
