The Favorite Hymns Of Promise Keepers is a compilation of hymns that have been used at the Promise Keepers men's conferences since their start on July 31, 1993. The songs are performed by the Maranatha! Promise Band and accompanied by an all-male vocal chorus. This is not just an album for those who have attended the Promise Keepers conferences, but is suitable for anyone who has a love for the traditional hymns of the church.
The album opens with the majestic "O For A Thousand Tongues To Sing":
O for a thousand tongues to sing My dear Redeemer's praise, The glories of my God and King, The triumphs of His Grace My gracious Master and my God, Assist me to proclaim, To spread through all the earth abroad, The honors of Thy name.
The choir's performance is very rich and mellow, and the instrumentation blends well with the vocals-providing emphasis and accents. I found great joy in sitting back and enjoying these voices as they sang out the hymns of the Church's history.
For our Spanish speaking brothers and sisters, they have included "Con Que Pagaremos," which is beautiful just to listen to even if you don't understand a word of Spanish. Some of the other hymns included on this album are: "The Church's One Foundation," "Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise," "Be Thou My Vision," "When I Survey The Wondrous Cross," and "How Great Thou Art." Favorite Hymns of Promise Keepers is a wonderful compilation of traditional hymns and I am sure it will be enjoyed by all who enjoy traditional music like this-men and women, young and old.
