Microskapic
Scraping the Culture
Reviewed by Brian Vincent McGovern
Complete with the horns and off-beats, this newest addition to the Rugged roster displays quite a bit of prowess in the intensity dept. Perhaps this is due to the influence of their musically affluent home town - Knoxville. Believability is challenged, though, when it is realized that the horn players on the record are merely studio musicians, not band members. But thankfully, Microskapic is one of those bands who doesn't rely on horns to be called ska. They've got enough swing, spy, rockabilly, and punk rock sounds mixed in there, you forget their name, and focus more on the cool, energetic music. "Face to Face" will rock you, with its big swingy opening guitar, which segues into a nice Dogwood-style punk rock.
