This is the first album Milemarker has released on Jade Tree Records and they have been together since 1997.
Milemarker is a combination of many different sounds. Driving most of the songs is synthesizer, which can range from doomy to poppy in nature. The guitars and drums reflect a pop mentality and the vocals are very unique. In general they are melancholy with random injections of soaring soprano parts. With the abundance of bands within the Anniversary/Get Up Kids sound, be sure not to lump Milemarker in the same category. They sound nothing like either of these bands, or really any band in the genre. There's a lot going on musically in each song and the dynamics are plentiful. With such a unique sound, you really need to listen yourself to formulate your own opinion.
While there's a lot going on here that stretches boundaries and travels new paths, I just don't get it. I guess I'm just confused about what they are trying to do. Undoubtedly there is a group of listeners that will really enjoy this, and while I applaud them for thinking outside the box, it's not something I would go out of my way to listen to.
