Confession time: When I was first told about Millions And Millions, I wasn't excited. The language of the press release, the word of mouth, I don't know; it just sounded so much like these guys were just doing more of what we already have in Christian music. I was tired.
Realization time: Whatever you hear, whatever you read, keep in mind that Millions And Millions is really worth checking out. Yeah, it's in that "new fun band" groove, mixing alternative, pop, and dance music—which alone should recommend them—but brothers Mike and Mark Stitts, who make up the duo Millions And Millions, also have a lengthy apprenticeship with the Tim Miner camp under their belt. In fact, the Stitts are apparently responsible for my two favorite songs on Al Green's Love Is Reality, "I Can Feel It" and the title track.
Ready to move on, the debut from Millions² is a catchy pop feast which bobs and weaves when it's hot, drips smoothly when it's cool, sports some catchy melodies, and is sealed in a self-produced package that is almost unheard of for a debut.
Lyrically, the brothers Stitts have put together songs that make the Christian messages accessible to teenagers, without sliding into the sort of bumper sticker rantings that give the rest of us headaches. All in all, it's quite possible that Millions And Millions have a stellar debut on their hands. One could even reach millions and mil...well, a lot of people.
