Monk have two current CDs for you to check out. The first is self-titled, and the second is called Blink -- both are on Ether Records, and the latter is also on Flat Earth Records. Monk play beautiful mid-range -- often ethereal -- guitar rock that is subtly suped up with diverse instruments (bagpipes, etc), spoken word segments, well-composed instrumentals, trained vocals, and even some Phishy jam songs. They are going to hate this description probably, but their songwriting has a very abstract folkish quality to it -- while still being very much innovative, unique rock. Monk CDs are definitely a prize catch for the person who wants their rock to be a reflective, educational, moving experience.
