Now for the music that will put hair on your chest (and some of you do need a little more) there's a new band formed by a couple of friends from the Philippines. Mortal is their name, and their album is Lusis, which is translated "freedom." Mortal is something long-needed in the Christian music industry; it's a type of chaotically structured industrial sound with bold vocals and pounding music. It has been compared to Nine Inch Nails and Skinny Puppy. Yet, it holds a certain air of genius in the interchange between the music and the lyrics.

Mortal has integrated several sounds into their music using new technology. The keyboards are out of control while the drum machines pound the life out of your head all held together by the "guitar being played with a razor blade effect" smoothing it out. There is also a lot of expression in the music. Emotions. Pain. Happiness. Suffering. Joy. All come out of the music with flare while there's a lot of mystery in the content. Challenging.

The first song on the disc, "Enfleshed (the Word is alive)" doesn't even let up: "So we're living, symptomatic enmity. . .here we're laughing, spitting at the face of anarchy, while victimized by hierarchy, capitalistic leprosy...now we're sipping, from the cup of irony, raise a toast to hypocrisy, honest, fallacy. . ." The chorus screams the truth, "The Word is alive. . ."

It's a powerful album, nothing more needs to be said. I encourage you to check out Dance House Children and Mortal; you won't be disappointed.

Dead Zine 2002Reviewed by NecRoSarXThe very first Christian industrial (or "post-industrial", depending on who you talk to) band? Hardly. There were others before Mortal, to be sure. No, what makes this band so notable is they helped make an awareness of Christian industrial, inspiring future acts and shedding light on previous pioneers like Blackhouse, Circle Of Dust and Deitiphobia. Lusis was their first, and highly…Heaven's Metal #34Reviewed by Doug Van PeltHave you ever heard Nine Inch Nails? This brand of heavy Industrial noise is pretty popular these days. I mean, you can even see Ministry videos on Headbanger's Ball! This genre often mixes loud electric guitar with sampled voices, drum machines and sequenced rhythms. It's got the energy and minor key discordant feel of Metal and the bounce and rhythm of dance music. Mortal's lyrics are up front…
