With five members in the band (four of whom are siblings) and a combined age of 89, it would be easy to dismiss Texas-based MossEisley as "just" a bunch of teens trying hard to copy their inspirations. But this rising band has got two things propelling them above teen garage band status: 1) The genius of their inspirations--Radiohead and Pink Floyd among the top of the list and 2) Their God-given, head-spinning talent. The band's only recording, EP2, is a self-produced showcase of "Way old music, written when Stacy (one of the songwriters) was nine years old." It's amazing.
The seven songs that make up EP2 have a sophistication that reaches far beyond the eldest member's 21 years. Even the titles hint at the depth these songs reveal: "Head Against the Sky," "Telescope Eyes," and "Blackened Crown," among them. Musically, they capture the dual-female-driven power of Veruca Salt, the atmospheric velocity of Radiohead and, at times, the subdued sweetness of Sixpence None the Richer.
To put it plainly and simply, MossEisley are incredible in spite of their youth....or maybe because of it. The Dupree family seems on the verge of something big. Keep an eye out for them in the future!
