Don't get fooled by the cover photo on this one. Pivitplex looks like the next in a long wave of nu metal bands, who will get by on one repetitive song with loud guitars, and a chorus growled hundreds of times. Instead you get a talented band with players who actually can change chords once in a while, and a singer whose vocals make Pivitplex sound like an edgier version of The Waiting.
"Some Will Fall" opens the album, and seemingly argues against the concept of predestination:
She said ' It's hard to find the strength to go on,
This world is bringing me down
See, yesterday it was a guessing game
And today it feels like more of the same.'
She finds it hard to find the strength to go on
This life is bringing her down
While pessimistic at first, the song does repeatedly plead the listener to "hang on now".
"Lullaby" is about the end of the day, dealing with restlessness and a reminder to pray for those around you. "Clarity," which recalls the best work of The Elms, demonstrates the futility of trying to outrun God. "You and Me" is a commitment to a relationship, perhaps a marriage.
Pivitplex spends a lot of time on this disc talking about the need for reliance on God. It is almost as if they just finished a study of Ecclesiastes at times -- themes of self-reliance, trusting in the world, friends, and love between humans are all explored, with the ultimate realization that God is the only way to true fulfillment. Not a bad theological message to get across in less than an hour.
