Pour

As soon as a band decides it wants to go for the golden road of modern rock mainstream radio acceptance, they better realize they are taking a huge bite. I think this is perhaps one of the hardest genres to make an impression in, because there's so much competition, there's so much vulnerability and bare nakedness in the music (no riffs, speed, or crashing crescendo to hide behind), and because the style leans so heavily on the fickle pop aesthetic. The 6 songs on Pour's latest disc doesn't have all the ingredients to knock 'em dead on mainstream modern rock radio, but they do seem to understand vibe, and dial in some good sounds to create this. I like the soul and atmosphere combined in "In The Night."
