Since this is my first review of an instrumental album for the Phantom Tollbooth, I decided to simply write down my impression of each song on a notepad. What follows are my exact thoughts, as they came to me. I apparently do not think in complete sentences. Receptor Sight are an experimental duo from Northern California dedicated to free expression and the creation of imaginative soundscapes and exploratory song structures. The music aims to achieve a balance of avant-garde experimentalism and melodic song structure.

1. Feline- only a few seconds long, so hard to tell how it represents a feline in any way. Just a short intro.

2. Flying Towards the Hole- does actually sound like I'm being sucked into a black hole.

3. The basal ganglia forest- starts off with Seinfeld-sounding bass, then becomes more eastern. Perhaps there is a hidden meaning in this song...if you're on drugs!

4. The Identification Toss- reminds me of "Comfortably Numb" by Pink Floyd, but then it goes on to sound like...well, nothing I've ever heard.

5. FOURTH SONG <---This just cracks me up, even though it's technically true. This song is really more like part 2 of the previous song.

6. Slowed Down Thumb- this starts off with xylophones and other percussion toys. With a cricket-like rhythm, it continues with xylophones and other percussion toys.

7. Bagel and Green- sounds like improv. Just imagine improv followed by more Pink Floyd sounds...and then more improv! But that's not all...this song is almost as long as eternity itself, so it then speeds up, goes back to more Pink Floyd sounds, and then even more Pink Floyd sounds, some cymbals....nope, still going.

8. Escape Velocity/The Receptor is Open- Thanks to song # 7, it took a long time to get here, but that's ok. "Timpanis are fun!" seems to be the theme behind this one...
