This split EP release from Society's Finest comes as a bit of a surprise, as they broke up last summer, and have been in a state of limbo label-wise since taking their vocalist back into the fold, and beginning a "come-back." The first four songs on the disc are the property of Rise Over Run, a modern hardcore metal act that has a bit in common with Earth Crisis, N.I.V., and later One King Down. Society's Finest's four hybrid metal tracks blister like their Solid State debut, but with a bit more diversity in range and tempo. Some drum bridges stumble on a little too far for their own good. Interesting intros, if they hadn't been done before a hundred times. Their third song sounds like kids messing around in their garage trying to play metalcore for the first time -- bleh. Their fourth track is a departure from the others, and is grainy, foreboding, and maniacal. Nice stuff, but Society's Finest is still at its best when it gets past the twiddling and just drives the violence home, like their first two tracks on this split.
