Every once in a while an unsigned band turns in a tape of competent material in the "do it right or cry" genre of melodic metal. Sevenfold has done just that with this 4-song demo. While the sonics show the limitations of a demo-level recording, the talent of the songwriters is clearly evident. "The Only One" bleeds with a passion for Jesus. I haven't heard a rocker sing the Name "Jesus" like this in a long time. "Not Enough" is an interesting song that was written for the Lord: "This one's not for anyone to hear or sing along/No storyline to follow, no message in disguise...I could live a million years/Still it's not enough to give You back all that you've given me." "Walk Free" has a really good guitar melody, yet is the only song that suffers from a lyrical triteness (if you could call this innocent proclamation of deliverance from sin trite). These artists appear to be two newborn Christians who are just singing for Jesus and haven't found out yet (fortunately) that it may be uncool to be straightforward in their lyrics. A sensitive producer could help them achieve the best in songwriting here without compromising.
