Bettie Rocket sure seems to know how to pick 'em. Sick of Change will no doubt get tagged a Slick Shoes clone, but who cares? They stinkin' rock! This is some of the tightest music (notice I say "music" not "punk rock") I've ever heard. Just when you think they're going to break the sound barrier, they will stop on a dime and break into something completely different. Yes, it's standard, but I still can't help but be blown away by the mind-boggling transitions and exceptional togetherness these guys achieve on their disc.
While the music is top-notch, Sick of Change also makes it a priority to bless God with their lyrics. Most of the songs on this album are prayers, conversations with God, confessing sin and giving thanks for His grace and love. The closing line on "Once Again" caught my ear, as the singer blatantly requests "So take my pointless life so I can use it all for You."
I dare say that these guys could beat out Slick Shoes and Craig's Brother to be the kings of new school punk, but I don't think they even care. All Sick of Change really wants to do is praise God and blow your mind. So strap yourself in and be sure to wear a helmet.
