SounDoctrine describes themselves as "alternative Christian funk," but their CD feels a lot safer than that to me. I never understood how instrumental tracks could be considered "secular" or "Christian," but nonetheless, tunes such as "(In My) Mirror," "Bloodline," and "Stilphil" range from jazz to slightly funky, but often fall more into the pattern of the Tonight Show band.
"Mirror" is somehow more familiar, perhaps reaching for a Stevie Wonder/Sly Stone influence. The CD blends together after awhile, with one song proceeding into the next without a distinct break in songs. That adds to the flow of the music, but makes it hard to determine where a track begins and ends.
