This South Carolina band is fronted by bassist Drue & Dana Bachman on guitars, who trade off lead vocals part of the time, backing each other the rest of the time. A Grey Dot debut, Breathe is a mod pop rock experience that goes from intense swirling guitars in "Crying Man" and the title song, where producers Chris Colbert & Derri Daugherty lend a hand in the "extraneous" guitar mayhem. To the toned down & reflective "Heaven" with Fleetwood Mac sounding guitars & Steve Hindalong on harmonica, and "Hello", a song of unconditional love. "I Cry" is a mid-tempo praise song. "91" is a Dana sung Psalm which fades into "Only" which closes the disc with Drue singing, backed by Kevin Heuer on piano. Nice album, but they should pick up the pace more often.
