One casual look at their bios on their website and the heart that Jason Clark and Jeremy Cole have for the Gospel will be obvious. After the band Fringe came to a close the guys were still passionate about expressing God's heart and a desire to be honest and relevant through their music. Their passion and desire led to this album, Surrendered and Untamed. The guys have a sound that can best be described as pop/rock worship. Some songs are relaxed pop, but others crank up the guitars to rock.
Unfortunately, the entire first half of the album feels like it never really gets going. The listener is waiting for it to build to something and settle into a sound, but that doesn't happen. Part of the reason for this is the fact that the first few songs sound so different with the first track having a light, almost folk feel. The second song picks it up some and the third picks up the tempo and seems to be channeling either Delirious? or U2. The fourth song slows things back down to a plodding tempo. Too many of these first few songs are just too slow.
Things get somewhat more interesting when the group cranks up the guitars for "When the Stars Fall Like Rain," the fifth track. The band still seems to be channeling their inner Delirious on this track at times, though. The next few songs are the strongest on the album, which unfortunately runs out of steam with the last two songs that will have some hitting the skip button on their CD players.
These are guys with an obvious passion but they need to work on a more cohesive sound.
