The ex-kings of hardcore groove are revisited here, as two of their underground tapes were remastered to give them new life. While the guitar tones are of the garage punk era, this disc doesn't sound bad. This disc could stand up to any old punk album and compete on equal terms
Tunes like "Silent Scream," with its melodic low end, the slamming tightness in "All You Need," the harsh pouting vocals during the verses of "Death To Death," the haunting chords of "The Nowl," and the classic "Your Image" are most reminiscent of The Crucified we've come to know as an extremly heavy band. The buzz saw guitar riffs of tunes like "Conviction" and "Be Warned" (Yowza!) and the rat-a-tat snare drumming in tunes like "Rebellion" show The Crucified swimming in old school punk waters.
The rifling riff in "Freedom" make one miss The Crucified -- although the screaching lead in same song doesn't make one miss this recording. While not a progression from Pillars..., this is still essential Crucified material for the collection.
