Best thought of as a band fronted by a ritalin deprived clone of Yeah Yeah Yeahs' vocalist Karen O, The Sick Lipstick play a fast and quirky style of music that brings to mind the likes of The Blood Brothers and others in that vein who prefer the music to be discordant while creating sound textures more reminiscent to a disgruntled child than to anything that could be considered smooth riding. Vocalist Lindsey Gillard's delivery is equal parts bratty snarl and a general jab at anything with a melody while the rest of the band plays within punchy time signatures that change back and forth at such a quick pace that you would think they're surely going to derail off track altogether at a moment's notice. But they don't. The musicianship is airtight and the songs are short and to the point. The music is dancey whilst being spastic at the same time, the lyrics are simple and snotty and it all amounts to a record that's just as easy to move to as it is pretentious.
