A slow metal sound with a raspy, angry female voice. That's Toran Spring. She could very well be the beginning of the Christian version of Lita Ford. She can jam. That is evident by this one-person recording. That's right, Toran does all the instrumentation here. It's easy to imagine her singing and playing guitar at the same time, because the vocals and guitar rhythms match other rather than run in opposites. Toran makes this tape available free to anyone asking. She has a response card inside asking for comments. She asks that we respond only after listening to the tape at least three times. I can see why. The first two times I heard it, I was too turned off by the garage-style production. Now, a month later, I listen to it and really enjoy it. The hooks and leads are creative and worth listening to. There's some cool lyrics on the bizarre side: "I love the psychos, 'cause they are free. They aren't phoney, like you and me." To describe Toran's voice is a chore: Try taking Janis Joplin's voice to a metal range and mixing it with Chrissie Hynds of The Pretenders. This talented musician will probably get some attention, but hopefully it won't be the same kind of attention Lita Ford gets from her predominantly male fans.
