A Testament To Broken Walls is a hardcore compilation put out by Akeldama and Backroad Records.
The purpose of the comp is to break down the walls between the "Christian" and "secular" hardcore scenes. Part of that may be to help people realize that when it comes to music; the scenes aren't that different. Another goal of the comp is to encourage acceptance of Christians and non-Christians in the hardcore scene. Whether or not those goals were accomplished is unclear, but what the comp does show is that not all hardcore bands sound exactly alike.
Some of the standout bands on the comp are: Blue Skies Burning, End This Day, Circle of Dead Children, Entrust, Upheaval, Fed By Ravens and Zao. As for the other bands, the fact that most of them scream or grunt or whatever you call post-death metal vocals makes the music run together, but it is almost humorous at times when you think of what animal each particular singer sounds like.
For the most part the production quality is quite "true to the scene" with the mix on a lot of the songs being on the lo-fi end of the spectrum. Yet with 17 songs from 17 different bands and over an hour of hardcore, this comp should hit the spot for hardcore fans everywhere, especially since there's an unreleased Zao song on it. And honestly who can beat this much hardcore for $6 ppd?
