Many are still scratching their heads at the idea of Springhill, well known for their country acts, starting a worship imprint. The new label says that their mission is to provide "new songs today...for the church tomorrow". Sonic Praise: Here I Am To Worship (which is not related to the Sonicflood release Sonic Praise) is their second release in a matter of months. Their first release, which they consider one of their key releases, Songs From the Bennett House, featured quite a few worship leaders from around the country performing new songs. This new release is not one of their key releases, but still important nonetheless.
This new album features well known worship songs done in a dance remix style. Some of the more well-known songs covered include "Awesome God," "Here I Am to Worship," and "You Are My King." Imagine a dance beat behind a hip version of your favorite worship songs and that starts to give you an idea of this release.
Unfortunately, this release is a step back for Springhill Worship. The creativity on this release is not as high as on the label's previous one. The dance beats quickly start sounding alike. The vocals are average at best. Unlike on their previous release where they used young artists, this time around the label decided to use artists who would appeal more to soccer Moms. In this case, this results in voices that don't work well with a dance sound. A better bet would have been to go with younger artists, such as Jaci Velasquez, Rachael Lampa, Joy Williams, and Jeff Anderson. A final concern is simply this: did we need yet another cover of some of these songs (such as "Awesome God" and "You Are My King")?
Springhill Worship showed with their first release that they are capable of creative worship music but this is unfortunately not it.
