Victoria Williams never really approaches a definitive version of any of these eleven standards, but that's simply not the aim here. The point is more along the lines of "because it's there." Williams' voice and presentation embody an oddball charm and quirky sense of rustic honesty that wins fans and critics with each collection of her original material (i.e., the beautiful Water to Drink album from 2000). This set, including classics like "Moon River," "Over the Rainbow," "My Funny Valentine," and "Someone to Watch Over Me," is culled from nearly a decade's worth of sessions. Consider it a labor of love and thank you note to the faithful.
