Listening to this four-piece pop/rock band, you can hear some promising things happening here. Unfortunately, there are some common stigmas that the band has fallen into. Dry instrumentation and vocals causing an album effort to sound more like a demo. Vocally though, it doesn't hurt it here, because of Tony Royer's well controlled vocals. Tony has a very nice range that tends to sound like John Elefante now and then. Hot spots are a ballad called "Dreams", and "Fashion Scientific", which is very reminiscent to an old Robin Trower in the 70's. Even though they caught my ears, the album lacked aggressiveness. The music seems to be written for great aggressive sounding guitar, but all we get is some fuzzy tones in the background, which tends to get drowned out by keyboards. All in all, if the members of Zuriel start playing with more conviction, I'm sure they could grow into a great sounding band. For ordering info, write: 1343 Dayton St, Hamilton OH 45011.
