    Amy Grant is an American singer-songwriter from Nashville, Tennessee, who began recording as a teenager after signing with Word Records at sixteen. Her early work joined Christian lyrics to folk-rooted pop and gospel, helping establish the contemporary Christian sound that later reached mainstream audiences. A Christmas Album shows the intimate side of that approach: traditional carols and originals in simple production, with family-centered writing such as "Tennessee Christmas." By House of Love in 1994, Grant's pop and acoustic base had widened to include Motown and R&B, including a duet with Vince Gill. Behind The Eyes turned inward in 1997, using mellow tempos and a guitar-led arrangement with Hammond organ for songs about grief and damaged relationships that leave room for hope. Her clear alto remained the constant.

    In 1999, Grant's marriage to Gary Chapman ended in divorce, and in March 2000 she married country singer Vince Gill. By then, the more exposed writing of Behind The Eyes had already brought personal strain and spiritual uncertainty into her songs, while A Christmas To Remember drew the archive's sharpest criticism for consumerist lyrics and heavy production. In 2005, Rock of Ages...Hymns and Faith returned her to hymn-centered material, combining new arrangements with older recordings and family participation. Grant later resumed full-length recording with How Mercy Looks from Here in 2013, followed by further hymn and Christmas projects. She has continued performing in Nashville and on tour, including dates in 2024 and 2025, while also appearing in film and television. She remains active as a singer-songwriter.
