    Embodyment was a Christian metal band from Arlington, Texas, formed in 1993 after beginning as Supplication. Its 1994 independent release Corrosion of the Flesh used brutal death-metal weight while pairing the violence with lyrics about spiritual doubt and suffering. Embrace the Eternal, released by Solid State Records in 1998, pushed further into fast metallic hardcore, with tightly packed riffs, frequent tempo changes and harsh vocals that remained mostly decipherable. The shift after that record was unusually complete. Sean Corbray replaced the earlier vocalist for The Narrow Scope Of Things in 2000, bringing soulful singing to heavy guitars that reviewers heard as emo, postcore and melodic rock. By Hold Your Breath in 2001, the band had settled into a moodier form built around the contrast between forceful instrumentation and soothing vocals.

    Drummer Mark Garza left around 2003 because he could no longer continue touring, and Embodyment dissolved in early 2004 after partially writing a follow-up to Songs for the Living. The breakup followed years of lineup changes, extensive touring and uncertainty about the band's increasingly alternative direction. Guitarist Andrew Godwin, Garza and former vocalist Kris McCaddon later formed The Famine in Arlington, returning to heavier music with a new band. Embodyment's unfinished later material eventually appeared as the five-song Forgotten EP in 2011, drawn from the Songs for the Living sessions.
