    Ghoti Hook was a punk band from Fairfax, Virginia, formed in 1991 and signed to Tooth & Nail Records in 1996. Its early records used fast, catchy guitar punk with a crisp but still rough-edged sound, balancing slapstick subjects with serious Christian writing. Sumo Surprise established the contrast: the title song turned its members into sumo-wrestling fantasists, while other songs dealt with salvation and personal conviction. Banana Man kept the same pace and strange humor, including a song about a man paid to dress as a banana, but also made room for songs about family fracture and leaving a damaging relationship. After the covers project Songs We Didn't Write, Two Years to Never shifted toward heavier rock, piano-led ballads, and more deliberate writing.

    Conrad Tolosa left after the 1997 release of Banana Man and its tour, choosing seminary and accounting over full-time touring; Mark Lacasse joined in 1998 and shared songwriting on the next album. Christian Ergueta departed after Two Years to Never, while Lacasse left a few months later, leaving Joel Bell, Adam Neubauer, and Jamie Tolosa as a three-piece. They recorded Six Songs for Velvet Blue Music in 2002, an aggressive guitar-rock EP that retained punk intensity, then played their final show at Cornerstone on July 6, 2002. Tooth & Nail issued Retrospective as a farewell collection in 2003. Ghoti Hook reunited for a benefit show in 2009, then returned to the stage in 2023 after rehearsing again in 2022.
