    Jerusalem is a Swedish Christian rock band formed in Gothenburg in 1975 by singer and guitarist Ulf Christiansson, initially built for evangelistic work outside church settings. Its early music drew on blues-based hard rock, with the weight of Thin Lizzy and early Whitesnake; the 1982 Warrior period marked a turn toward a sustained hard-rock and metal sound. By In His Majesty's Service, the band combined fast guitar riffs with prominent keyboards and live exhortation. Dancing on the Head of the Serpent pushed that approach into pop-metal, with large choruses and arena-scale vocals. After a six-year gap, Prophet moved toward alternative and art/progressive rock without losing its heavy edge, and its songs addressed grace, AIDS, and the Holocaust.

    In the fall of 1985, Jerusalem stopped touring after years of demanding international work, and its members attended the Word of Life Bible School. The band returned with Dancing on the Head of the Serpent in 1987, then went quiet again while Ulf Christiansson made solo records. They regrouped in Gothenburg for Prophet, recorded live in the studio in 1992, and later toured with changing lineups. A 1997 Swedish concert produced Live - På ren svenska, whose two-disc performance returned to the band's mid-1970s hard-rock sound. Jerusalem continued into the 21st century, with later lineups including Philip Christiansson, and released Stygn in 2023.
