    Matt Redman is an English Christian worship leader and songwriter who grew up in Chorleywood after being born in Watford in 1974. He began leading worship as a teenager at St Andrew's Church and helped Mike Pilavachi establish the Soul Survivor movement in 1993. His early work combined congregational writing with guitar-driven Christian rock. The Friendship And The Fear used distorted guitar, keyboards and programmed percussion beneath his husky voice, with lyrics concerned as much with holiness as adoration. Intimacy made the melodies simpler for group singing while adding loops, an electric sitar and a Zulu choir. By Where Angels Fear To Tread, the arrangements had become warmer and more organic, though the writing still moved between intimate reflection and large worship anthems.

    In 2001, Redman took a sabbatical in California and then left Soul Survivor, moving to Brighton and joining Church of Christ the King in 2002. He and Beth Redman joined The Point, a church plant in West Sussex, in 2004. In 2008 they moved to Atlanta to help establish Passion City Church with Louie Giglio and Chris Tomlin. Redman's later career expanded in the United States through songs such as "10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord)," co-written with Jonas Myrin, which won two Grammy Awards in 2013. He continued recording live and studio worship music, including Let There Be Wonder in 2020 and Lamb of God in 2023. In 2023 he publicly identified himself as one of the people harmed by Mike Pilavachi, and discussed his experience in the 2024 documentary Let There Be Light.
