    Phillips, Craig & Dean is a Christian vocal trio formed in 1992 by three pastors who were also songwriters. Its early records treated the voices as the main instrument: the debut moved from upbeat gospel-pop to tender ballads, with R&B inflections and a broad contemporary-pop frame. The trio's tight blend could carry material that reviewers found more memorable than the backing. Lifeline kept the ear-friendly approach while making the religious subject matter explicit, and Trust added more rhythmic force without abandoning the harmony-led format. Guitar and drums pushed several songs toward rock, while piano and strings supported the slower pieces. The group's practical-joke streak also entered the records through spoken studio asides. By Let My Words Be Few, the emphasis had shifted toward polished praise-and-worship arrangements.

    In 2000, Phillips, Craig & Dean moved from Star Song Records to Sparrow Records with Restoration, continuing as a recording group while maintaining their pastoral work. The change brought no break with the vocal format, but the material increasingly centered on worship rather than the earlier pop songwriting. They remained together through later releases and continued touring beyond the period covered here. Dan Dean stepped down from his lead pastor role in 2019 while staying active with the trio. In 2024, he began recording a solo project, and the group's announcement made clear that the project was separate from Phillips, Craig & Dean, which continued as an active band.
