South Africa's new hardcore imports Aftertaste claim to stand out based on African influences in their music, and experimentation with buildups and breakouts. They don't lie. Aftertaste brings a new spin to progressive hardcore on its debut, Two Minutes to a Heartbeat. The band might be lumped into the generic metalcore category, but that's too confining a classification for this band with variable undertones. Slow down Aftertaste's barrage of tunes, take off a little distortion, nix the screaming vocals, and you've got a melodic post-punk band.
