On Live from the Bridge, Agents of Future give us a "snapshot of a typical Sunday morning at The Bridge" (apparently a Christian fellowship in Portland, OR). The songs on this disc can at first appear as straightforward praise & worship psalms done in a quirky, funky, neo-hippie, 'indie-rock' way (a la Soul-Junk, Danielson, etc.), but there is something even more special about Agents than just a quirky sound and vibe (as there also is with Soul-Junk and Danielson). Simply put, their album communicates. It does what so many live discs attempt and fail to capture -- it absorbs you into its context and invites you to feel, be, and worship with them: in a way that all those commercial 'P&W' albums cannot (by their very nature of being commercial). Agents have something to say, unquestionable credibility, and a gentle, intelligent, graceful, loving (Christ-like) spirit -- a pipeline to the hard and cynical heart yearning to beat and believe in something beyond itself again. Speaking of cynicism (and embracing irony), Agents of Future are so 'real', and have so little agenda, that they could actually be considered subversive. For it is surely soul like this that subverts the fallen nature and opens the backdoor for the Spirit to enter, bypassing the lemming fads and market watches and demographics and other assundry Temple tables deserving of a Messiah turning.
