Claiming Erie, PA, Anchor is the amalgamation of members of xDISCIPLEx AD, Shockwave, and Dodgin' Bullets. Their 7-song CD EP packaging features the recognizable artwork of Dave Quiggle, and contains a melodic hardcore punk sound that may surprise fans of the aforementioned bands. Whether it is a pleasant surprise or not is obviously subjective, but they succeed in their sonic objective with class and flair. A bit reminiscent of recent efforts by Greyarea and Burning Heads - which I personally think is a compliment - but impressively unique in character and song-writing. The title track starts out a bit over-the-top, but eventually settles into a light-footed groove, and has a striking mid-chorus that comes out of nowhere. The entire disc is saturated with gang-vox, sometimes for the worse, but often for powerful moments of communal bravado, as in "Face in the Crowd."
